#25 & #80

This weekend I crossed two more items off the list. 

#25 Buy a mac.  Hooray.  I have a new computer.  This one wasn't planned to happen so soon, but my old laptop went kaput.  Since I use it regularly, it was time.  So a new computer for me.

#80 Take an out-of-state trip with Ryan.  We went over the weekend to College Station, TX, the home of Texas A&M, for a wedding for a good friend of his from college.  We had a fun time.  Here are some of my favorite pictures. 

This is where we  ate lunch on the way down in Gainsville, TX.  Its called the Happy Hippo Sub Shoppe.  It was great!!!  It was a little off the traditional path, but it was lots of fun and super cheap.  Only down side - no public restroom.  At that point we hadn't stopped yet, so Newton to Gainsville with no potty breaks...yep that's a long time.

 

We spent part of the day on the campus exploring.  We found some of the greatest plants.  I believe that tree in the photo is called a live oak.  It doesn't ever loose it leaves or go dormant.  It grows continuously and can live for hundreds of years.  The plant that is multi-colored we decided would be called a cabbage plant, not to be confused with Cabbage Patch.  It has awesome colors and was just so unique.

  

The campus was full of great details.  I loved the sidewalks.  They were made of little pebbles - I just absolutley love cobblestone streets, so this was great for me.  The other picture is an entry way to one of the buildings on campus.  I love all the little intricate details.  So cool.

In an effort...

to lift my spirits, I was chatting with my dear friend Ashley.  I asked for a suggestion for a post, since all the thoughts I was thinking were a bit down-hearted.  So she mentioned that she was discussing ostriches and I should post about them.  Interestingly enough, I just happen to have had a somewhat close encounter with an ostrich in fairly recent history.  Enjoy my encounter through pictures.
 

So he (at least we thought it was a he) came to visit us, because we threw food out our window.  That is Kristen (who lives in Africa) slamming and locking the window because he tried to come inside.  Then he stole  our tennis shoes which were outside the door.  We had to throw more food out to distract him, while I ran out to recover the shoes...

Shocking!

So, Ryan and I have been working on keeping the house up better.  And we have discovered, that our dog sheds a ridiculous amount!  We love him, but its a little out of control!  So, in order to keep up with the mess, last year we got a Roomba.   And while we love the constant upkeep it provides and would recommend it to "normal" households (meaning dogless), it just doesn't cut the mustard.  It will still run every day at 6:00 am, but we have to supplement its actions.  The vacuum we have cost less than $100 and is louder than a locomotive in my living room.  For all the noise it makes, it does NOTHING.  No suction power whatsoever.

So this week we made an investment.  We bought this.   It is called the Dyson Animal.  Sounds great doesn't it.  Well, it is.  We read every review out there, and apparently its amazing.  So we asked around.  People we know also said its great.  Even as I was heading to the checkout line at Best Buy where it was ON SALE, people said oh my gosh you are going to love that!  I would never buy anything else.

And this was our result.  (Remember the roomba goes every morning at 6:00 am and we vacuumed with our $100 vacuum the day before we got this one.)

  

Yes.  That's right.  The canister is a little over half full after once pass of the house.  We had no idea how much our current system wasn't working.  We apologize to any guests that might have suffered due to our lack of investment in a working vacuum cleaner.  You will never again have to worry about that in our house.  We are a true testament to the product and believe it was worth saving for!

#94 - Crossed off!

The first thing to officially be crossed off my 101 list!  Hooray.   Its number 94. Watch a new sport.  So, we, Emily (Ryan's youngest sister), Ryan and I went to a hockey game.  I have never been to a hockey game, so I went and watched and learned... I don't really like hockey. 

That guy against the far wall just got slammed into the boards - I really didn't enjoy that aspect.  At one point a dude lost his helmet and was getting slammed and I could only think about how he needed to put his helmet back on before he got knocked out.  I was pretty much the only one not cheering when people got hammered.

The zamboni I thought was interesting though.   Poor Ryan, he LOVES hockey, and I sat there playing Su do ku for the whole 3rd period.  I did try though.
