Why is it that

when Ryan is gone things seem to go wrong around the house.

He was freezing his tail off in Jackson, Minnesota all week.  Not that my tail was a whole lot warmer...

Things I don't know how to fix.

Like my car that wouldn't start.

Like the electricity that goes out.

Like the garage door that won't open or close when you push the button.

Like the light on the garage door that won't go off.

Like the washing machine that seems to be leaking.

Its all kind of annoying.

But I am a big girl.  I can handle it right? RIGHT.

I fixed the garage door so that it will lock - one socket wrench and five minutes later

but now I have to go in through the front door and open the garage from the inside and then pull the car inside.

I fixed the light in the garage - i decided that it's good to leave it on, so people will know I am home.

cause it totally obvious from the street that the garage light is on and that i would be chillin (literally) out there all night long...

I fixed the electricity problem - there were lots of candles in the closet thanks to my decision to be prepared after the lights went out last time.

I fixed the washing machine problem - a little febreeze goes a long way.

I fixed my car problem - it's too cold to go any where anyway.

See, I am a big girl.  I can problem solve.

How do you fix little problems when your personal Mr. Fix-It is away?

seriously some of the best nights are spent in the company of a good friend, a good movie and an opportunity to talk about whatever we want.  luckily tonight was one of those nights.

first i would like to say thanks to my friend jill who kept me company on this very cold night while ryan was on the road home from minnesota.  we share a love of Jane Austen and are making our way through the movies.  and i must say:

what a movie...

what a book...

don't you just love pride and prejudice?

Memoir Monday - a good hair day

its a little late, but here is my weekend recap.

I must admit, however, that I kind of miss some of the curls. :)  Don't tell him I said that though.  I was begging him to cut it...he would say I am wishy-washy...which is sometimes true.

Oddly enough he wore the same shirt for both pictures. :)

And another note, Finley butted into the picture taking.

And this is how he rides in the car these days.

Its pretty much constant...and pretty weird.  I think he thinks he's a person.

shocking news...

that i have been thinking about all day...

i read my poem in class last night.  i know i shared the first few lines with you a couple weeks ago.  they went like this...

He said I am living water.  
Those who drink from this cup will never thirst again. 
He said I am the source everlasting.

now, i had the impression from my classmates, over the few classes we have had, that they are not Christians.  in fact it almost seemed obvious that they think Jesus and His saving grace are a buch of hooey.

but i would have assumed that most of them would at least understand the reference.  however, that was not the case.  the reference of Christ as the living water was totally lost on many of them.  in their comments on my poem, several asked who is the "he" in the first line...

shocking.

astounding, to me that out of 20 people in my class at wichita state at least 4 had no idea what i was talking bout.  4 people who grew up in the midwest had no concept whatsoever of Jesus.  i actually had a brief moment to explain to the class that Jesus is living water and that when you trust in him you will never be thirsty again.

so, since you are all dying to know, few of the people liked my poem.  they don't like the religious overtone, but some of them actually thought it was nice.  they liked the imagery i created.  

so overall, it was a mix of responses, but i have some major revisions to make...

i also found that i might have at least one opportunity to share Jesus with someone in my class.  so we shall see how that goes....

Snow Days

Don't you just love snow?

 

I really really do.

I am not sure why, but it is beautiful and white. 

I love the Family Circus look it gets when Finley treks through it.

I don't even mind shoveling the giant drift so I could pull into the driveway.

And today, Ryan made me snow ice cream!  I was so excited.  I had read about it on several blogs of our friends that have kids saying it was a great project for little kids...

So natrually, the two of us were pumped to give it a go.

We gathered the snow.

Well, Ryan and Finley gathered snow.  But unfortunately the first batch was full of goobers.

 

Just kidding - that's the vanilla flavor and the milk.

So we tried again on the other side.

Ryan would like you all to note how fast he can stir.

It turned out great.

A little chocolate sauce and perfection!

Don't you just love snow!?!

 

The List

Ryan and I do a lot of driving. 

Last year, it seemed like we were on the road for weeks.  

Luckily it gave us lots and lots of time to talk...and time to visit family and friends.

Anyway, during one of those rides, we spent about 4 hours hashing out the list of places that we would like to visit in our lifetime. 

Now Ryan and I both love to travel - me more than him I think.  Either way, we both love exploring new places.  So as you can imagine it's a long list.

The weird part of the list is we ranked the places.  That is why it took 4 hours.  We had to lobby for why the place we said should be ranked higher - yeah, we're lame.

So I thought I would share the final version.  It's kind of exciting to know we have a "plan". 

Do you have any suggestions for more places or what to do in these places or an arguement for why some place should be on the list that isn't? 

We broke the list into two parts - International and US.

Memoir Monday - a bad hair day?

So over the weekend a couple weeks ago Ryan wanted to see what straight hair would be like...

He also wanted to know how long his hair was.  So here you go.

This is the before.

This is after.

It was short lived however.  We later went to Igniter (youth group) where he played 45 minutes of intense dodge ball...the sweat led to a super awkward curl/straight problem.  Nevertheless, he thought it was so cool!

Luckily for all of us - including him, I think he's starting to get annoyed by the length - he has a hair cut scheduled for Tuesday!!!!
