one day this week, i watched nearly all day and then took a break when NBC did and then proceded to watch the entire evening program from 7 to 11.

this week i have avoided lesson planning, laundry, exercise, grocery shopping, cleaning, making dinner, and even phone calls from friends so that i don't miss something "important" on tv. :)

if you are someone who as been avoided as a result, please accept my apologies, i am seeking help.

i am curently watching the women's relay next to a pile of clean and folded laundry on my right and a pile of clean and unfolded laundry on my left.  perhaps i will get them folded and both put away before this is over tonight.  but i'm not banking on it.

hold on...brb...

sorry, it got really exciting there for a couple minutes.  another gold!  we were yelling pretty good at the tv.  which is hilarious, considering everything i am watching happened about 6 hours ago...

missy franklin is so fun.  have you seen this video?

 

oh well perhaps my productivity will improve tomorrow.  but i'm not really anticipating it since the more i watch the olympics, the more i think i need to plan a trip to London.

did you watch the super bowl?!?  i hope so, it was a great game!  GO GIANTS!

but in all reality i watch the super bowl for two reasons: food and commercials.

first the food was great, smoked turkey sandwiches.  i probably ate about one pound of turkey - not joking. 

the commercials were a little disappointing.  i think i only laughed outloud twice, which really makes me sad.  but i wanted to brighten up your wednesday and share the two that were my favorite.

the brown m&m...oh man.

 

and the e*trade baby - for real that kid kills me every time.

since my last post.  I feel like a total slacker and I feel like I really need to get some stuff out.

I am all kinds of backed up on photos and stories and thoughts.

I can sum up the rest of the post in 4 words:

MIDDLE SCHOOL TRACK MEETS

Do you remember those?

I went to one last week with my friends Julie and Kesler to watch some of the most awesome 8th graders I know.

It reminded me so so much of being 13.  I know I have talked about being 13 before and how much fun it is to think back. 

Notice I said THINK back, not GO back. :)

What are the key things you remember from middle school track meets?

Here are my top 5 things.

1. Boys.  I was in track so I could giggle with the other girls about the boys.

2. Cold.  It was always cold, unless it was hot.  Which sometimes, it was.

3. Food.  It was all about what my mom packed in my cooler.

4. Early release.  For the right meets, you could leave school as early as 12:30 sometimes.  Awesome.

5. Social Event of the Week.  Track meets were the event of the week.  Why?  Everyone did track.  Seriously, almost everyone.  There were no tryouts.  I "ran" track because all the people I liked, hoped to like and hoped would like me were on the team.

Other thoughts on track...I was bad.  I have never been much of a runner.  I was in throwing events.  I wasn't much good at that either.

I did once run the 800 meter race.  No idea what inspired my coach to have me run that considering I had never done it before, nor had I ever expressed a desire to compete.  But run it I did.  I actually got 2nd place. 

Totally crazy. 

Total fluke. 

Totally awesome. 

I never ran it again.  I decided to go out while I was ahead.

However, in the last few weeks, I have become a runner.  Twice I have run for 60 minutes...without stopping...without my legs falling off...without thinking I would pass out. More on this topic later!

 

 

Bowling

Bowling - a weird word and a weird sport (I should confess, I have a hard time calling it a "sport."  Shouldn't a sport involve running of some kind? Moving on.)

Well, not moving on too far, because I wonder why we call it bowling.  There is no bowl involved.

But if there was, I would like this one sometime, in Shamrock please.

 

So back to the story.  

Now bowling has become a big deal in the MacAdam famlily.

Now lest you be confused, please note: my maiden name is MacAdam.  So in the future please keep in this in mind. : )

In order to enlighten you about how big a deal bowling is here are some fun facts.   

1. Three out of the five in attendance own their own bowling ball.

Back right, Mom, right front, Dad, left front, Ryan.

2.  Two out of five, own their own bowling shoes, and they don't look like this.

3.  4 out of 5 are outrageously competitive even though they have only bowled once in the last 12 months.

Except for Mom, who has recently joined a bowling league, can't you tell?

Sorry mom, I couldn't resist.  Love you!

Ryan worked specifically on his form.  Check that out!

Did you notice that the picture of Mom and Ryan is exactly the same, just from the other side?  Interesting how from one side it looks like great form and the other side looks totally off-balance.

4.  1 out of 5 doesn't allow photos.  So, he gets a picture of a bad ball.

5.  One out of 5 was in good spirits throughout the competition.

This was her ball.  They were like one unit.  

They had a mutual understanding: I will be gentle if every once in a while you knock down some pins.  

And the little ball that could, did.  

In the 10th frame on the last game, she got a strike and got another chance.  Then she got a strike again.  Then she got eight more.

And that one person who was completely uncompetitive, who made everyone else crazy with her nonchalance, got a 127 and took second place.

So take that!

So much for the uncompetitive spirit. :) 

And to end the celebration, a birthday gift from the kids a massage to help the big 65 year old to recuperate from a big day of activity!

Happy birthday, Dad (even though it was 3 weeks ago).
